Get started using Adobe After Effects

Get started using Adobe After Effects ๐Ÿ’€

Adobe Ae CC 2015

I'm gonna start by simple idea of how it feels when you open Adobe After Effects or Ae. Then we will move to how to operate it with ease, rest assured you'll be able to use it.
Heads up: This isn't a step by step kind of approach but a physiological approach. Basically convincing your brain and tricking it into learning without letting it know that we're learning ๐Ÿ˜›

I've been using Ae for a fairly long time and must say, that's the coolest piece of software I've used in terms of motion graphics and general/next level editing (although I'm not a big fan of team Adobe for some reasons).
A lot of people reach out to me and say they are "intimidated" by Ae it looks like they're operating a spaceship hahah. I know and fully understand the intimidating part!

Ae is such a vast software that even veterans are still discovering new methods of workflow and animation techniques, compared to them we are just babies.

I learned Ae through youtube, watching various channels but when I say this to the people who ask me where did I learn? Their answers are usually "Yeah I do that, do you know a channel where I can learn?" OR "Can you tell me the channel name?"Quite frankly hearing it a dozens of times I've got tired of it :/ As there's no specific channels or source to learn anything not just Ae. Its just the way our minds work affected by global educational system, "learn physics trhu physics book" wrong, book is good but physical observation and personal experience plays a huge role in learning too not just a book. Easier put, launch the software and just mess with the buttons try to recreate anything that you saw was made in Ae ๐Ÿ˜.

Anyway I can help you with that, it's just a little issue that I'd address as "search approach". When we want to learn Ae we usually search "How to use Adobe After Effects" this shows us results where people are teaching how to use Ae, but actually what's going on in every video is they're just demonstrating "this is a pentool, this is a shape tool etc" that doesn't help at all. Try searching how to make something in Ae, could be anything like you saw in some video and curious how it was made.
What you're looking for is to see the process of making cool animations and effects, but searching results shows you "how to use the tools". Just switch the way of searching.

Examples to make your work easy: "How to animate splash art in Ae" or "How to make AMV in Ae" or "How to make audio visualizer in Ae".

Just don't look up for "How to use Ae". The best way to learn is not to know how to use the tools but to create whatever inspires you or makes you curious, you're gonna learn tools along the way ๐Ÿ˜„
This way you are learning by not just the means of learning but by making use of your excitement hormones, once you've successfully created something using this it'll give you a boost and open more doors of possibilities. Basically giving you an urge of making cool edits that make people go... AWWWWW how did you do that <3
(fully aware I sound like a nerd that says ants are the rulers of this world.. I don't say that)

Ofcourse personal curiosity plays a vital role, if you are truly curious about learning or making cool edits vfx then you'll find your way thru anything :) When I started I was an ape unga bunga energy but curious. Watched tutorials for like 2 months everyday nothing specific like if I saw something cool in a movie I try to search for tutorial, wasn't lucky everytime.
Then started creating things that I saw by my own knowledge that I gathered. Created many things (random as well as imaginary ads for imaginary brands) without tutorials to see if I'm even learning. Been years and its still my routine, everyday trying to polish skills. One difference is that right now I work with real brands :P no imaginary anymore.
Search "Arsacre" on Youtube to see my work and work I do for clients :)

One more thing on my youtube channel Arsacre you can learn to make graphics and cool edits that are hardly or not even available anywhere or youtube (99.99% guaranteed haha).
Here's a few that will get you started with a blast
