How to make Easy Pro LYRICS VIDEO in AFTER EFFECTS

Hi, in this post I'll share lyrics making method inside of Adobe AfterFX

Some of you may already be aware of my youtube channel, where I mostly teach lyrics and music graphics related tutorials.
This one out of many tutorials I've posted got a little extra hype than others ๐Ÿ˜›
Many people liked it and learned.

Ideas and step by step tutorials Playlist

For making this type of lyrics video I don't have a specific workflow but here are some steps to make it easier to understand and faster to produce.

Step 1:
Visualize how you want the video to look overall, then proceed by simply typing out the lyrics. Type lyrics on separate layers, such as a poem has lines. Lyrics are basically poem too with lines. Select a line or phrase of your choice and type.

Step 2:
When typing the lyrics try not to make anything super hectic or fancy at early stage, just do basic "In & Out" animations. These "In & Out" animations could be anything from text fading in/out to text rotating in/out or scaling in/out and so on.

Step 3:
Once you have typed out all the lyrics text, now sit back and watch the whole thing. See how it looks. Then...if...If it feels like you want to add color variations, try adding color to some text layers. Leave some White or any color that represents your 'main color'. I added Purple as a secondary color.

Step 4:
When you're done with typing lyrics, it is a good idea to "Pre-Compose" all the text layers. This way you'll end up having 1 layer that contains all your text layers. Now we're ready to add some fancy things.

Step 5:
I usually create an 'Adjustment' layer above Pre-composed text layer. My go to effect is Glow effect. It can be used for adding bloom to the video and complex effects other than bloom (a different topic).

Step 6:
Basically in this step you have to edit the written text and go crazy with effects while maintaining a style/look. Consider it like photo editing, you have a picture that your friend asked to edit for him, add glows to his eyes color correction add particles etc.
Difference is that this is a moving picture with text.

I added 'Wave Warp' effect on adjustment layer and animated the height and width of this effect to get a warping transition as the words switch.
Then a 'Glow' effect to make things glowy ๐ŸŒŸ
Then Wiggle effect to add random movement to the whole picture.
Then splashed a few particle overlay videos at the top and finished it with 'Curves' and 'Color Balance' effects to experiment with colors.

That's pretty much it, you can go an extra mile and add emojis or draw somethings like Hearts, smileys like I did in the video to make it interesting ๐Ÿ™‚

By now, you should end up with a decent looking lyric video that is ready to be shared as either official lyrics video for your music, or a reel video for your socials ๐ŸŽฅ

Here is a Playlist full of great lyrics video ideas and step by step tutorials.

How to Animate LIVE WALLPAPER and SPLASH SCREEN

Let's Animate LIVE WALLPAPER and SPLASH SCREEN

You may have seen those sick atmospheric Live Wallpapers and pretty animated splash screens on games mainly on Steam such as League Of Legends, DOTA 2 and etc.
Behind those animated splash arts there is a person whose dedicated job is to animate the given designs/characters/composition or sometimes just make it work with a single picture of the game.
Play this video for preview then we get started!
Watch full video here

This person usually works with the software files such as Photoshop "PSD" with organized artwork layers. Provided by game's company or the character designer, but sometimes they just have so much going on to take time and organize a file for animator, that's alright (also not their job in most cases).
*Luckily animators are really good at organizing mass mess ๐Ÿ˜œ

Anyway, the question is how do they animate a single image into an eye candy looped video?
Answer is very simple, they cut out the image in parts and repaint the 'cut areas'.
Sounds intimidating...well it is.. but that's what makes job fun and bills aren't gonna pay themselves :')

Simple quick Plan to begin with the process:

My 2 Setups Process to do this work

Image setup: The image process is divided into these parts after having an image to work with.
Animation setup: Comes in when Image setup is done. you'll see further in examples.

Image setup:

1. Cut out big chunks from the image such as >>Foreground  >>Midground  >>Background.

Example (like I cut the front mountain with boy, middle floating islands/clouds and background mountains)

2. From these 3 big chunk you have to separate the medium sized items
Example (like I cut plants from this front mountain, in middle there was nothing so I'll add extra things in animation later and so on)

3. Now look for organic item that could be closest to the viewer and cut it out. Then cut it into parts further to make it a focus point of your video.
Example (In my case it the boy, cut him out, then further separate the parts such as the robe, hair, hands etc)

4. You'll notice when you cut the parts out, the cut area remains empty. To fix this there is only one way that I know of which is that you have to repaint those parts.

*This is where the major pain lies because its a tedious process. Re-painting will be easy for you if you are experienced in digital art or just drawing in general. But if you are not, then just try to mess around on a backup file. Re-painting is a process where you continue a cut area of an image and try to paint remaining area, it doesn't have to be full blown painting, just try to cover the empty areas the cleaner you do the smoother the video will be.

Alright for me that is it for the image setup, that's how I like to setup the image.

Animation setup:
Animation setup isn't really like the image setup with steps, it is more like "do what works best" or what flows together or could look great as a "Live Wallpaper".
Still divide them in 3 essential parts:

Foreground: I usually like to start animation with the focus subject (in my case its the boy), he's standing on a mountain top so there will be wind. So I'll animate the boy's robe and hair.

Now that I have something to begin with I'll proceed to animating the plants, the same way affected by the wind as hair and the robe.

By doing this we are done with the "Foreground" animation.

Midground: Here in my case I have floating islands and clouds. Let's forget clouds for now. Focus on the islands, I will make them move sideways but before that lets to go for an extra step that could really make it appealing.
Using the "special fx" I will try to make a water simulation, duplicate it and place it on each island as if the water is falling from these islands. Very tiny detail but it really adds a sense of depth.
Islands > water simulation> composite with islands

*Here "special fx" refers to additional effects made by the animator that were not animate-able from the original art. i.e. water, sunshine, light flare, glow etc.

Now I can simply make the islands move sideways and to add depth I will also animate the clouds the same sideways like the islands. Just keep their speeds different 'cause things don't move at same speed. The wind will affect the objects differently depending on their mass and vulnerability to its effect.

Background:  My least favorite part lol, but in this case we have interesting things going on in background. A beam is passing from the mountain through the clouds.
I can animate that through "special fx" (you'll see me creating this in the video time-lapse below)
basically edit it add some light flares with glow.
* Light flare is the light that appears on image captured in light, and could be seen with naked eye either in sunlight or at night.
Go outside, squint your eyes while seeing any lights source such as
vehicles' headlights at a fair distance at night.
(See on internet for better definition, nothing complex.)

Now we are pretty much done, to spice things up lets add some atmospheric elements.
atmospheric elements really push the beauty of art, whether its music, painting or a video.
You can use free to use particle overlays for that purpose. But I will make a custom overlay for this video so it stays in one theme.
Will create floating leaves and tiny glowing particles that could be fireflies.

Add some smoke between the mountains, tiny things here 'n there such as birds.
Tiny birds really define the humongous landscape scale, as they look majestic flying through the sky. Add if that's something that fits.

DONE! Final image could be used as a live wallpaper on windows 7 10 11 etc
or as a phone live wallpaper too!

Alright, my fingers are rendered with nothing but a great pain typing all this, if you'd like to see the process you can watch on my YouTube channel,

Very time consuming to do a tutorial on this topic instead I wrote these steps with gifs for you & explained as much as possible if you are looking for some guidance or a written tutorial to start your animations :)

I hope it was helpful, appreciate if you've managed to read it through.
Ask me if there's something regarding this topic.

P.S if you want to hire me to animate similar stuff for you, feel free to drop an email for query.

Get started using Adobe After Effects

Get started using Adobe After Effects ๐Ÿ’€

Adobe Ae CC 2015

I'm gonna start by simple idea of how it feels when you open Adobe After Effects or Ae. Then we will move to how to operate it with ease, rest assured you'll be able to use it.
Heads up: This isn't a step by step kind of approach but a physiological approach. Basically convincing your brain and tricking it into learning without letting it know that we're learning ๐Ÿ˜›

I've been using Ae for a fairly long time and must say, that's the coolest piece of software I've used in terms of motion graphics and general/next level editing (although I'm not a big fan of team Adobe for some reasons).
A lot of people reach out to me and say they are "intimidated" by Ae it looks like they're operating a spaceship hahah. I know and fully understand the intimidating part!

Ae is such a vast software that even veterans are still discovering new methods of workflow and animation techniques, compared to them we are just babies.

I learned Ae through youtube, watching various channels but when I say this to the people who ask me where did I learn? Their answers are usually "Yeah I do that, do you know a channel where I can learn?" OR "Can you tell me the channel name?"Quite frankly hearing it a dozens of times I've got tired of it :/ As there's no specific channels or source to learn anything not just Ae. Its just the way our minds work affected by global educational system, "learn physics trhu physics book" wrong, book is good but physical observation and personal experience plays a huge role in learning too not just a book. Easier put, launch the software and just mess with the buttons try to recreate anything that you saw was made in Ae ๐Ÿ˜.

Anyway I can help you with that, it's just a little issue that I'd address as "search approach". When we want to learn Ae we usually search "How to use Adobe After Effects" this shows us results where people are teaching how to use Ae, but actually what's going on in every video is they're just demonstrating "this is a pentool, this is a shape tool etc" that doesn't help at all. Try searching how to make something in Ae, could be anything like you saw in some video and curious how it was made.
What you're looking for is to see the process of making cool animations and effects, but searching results shows you "how to use the tools". Just switch the way of searching.

Examples to make your work easy: "How to animate splash art in Ae" or "How to make AMV in Ae" or "How to make audio visualizer in Ae".

Just don't look up for "How to use Ae". The best way to learn is not to know how to use the tools but to create whatever inspires you or makes you curious, you're gonna learn tools along the way ๐Ÿ˜„
This way you are learning by not just the means of learning but by making use of your excitement hormones, once you've successfully created something using this it'll give you a boost and open more doors of possibilities. Basically giving you an urge of making cool edits that make people go... AWWWWW how did you do that <3
(fully aware I sound like a nerd that says ants are the rulers of this world.. I don't say that)

Ofcourse personal curiosity plays a vital role, if you are truly curious about learning or making cool edits vfx then you'll find your way thru anything :) When I started I was an ape unga bunga energy but curious. Watched tutorials for like 2 months everyday nothing specific like if I saw something cool in a movie I try to search for tutorial, wasn't lucky everytime.
Then started creating things that I saw by my own knowledge that I gathered. Created many things (random as well as imaginary ads for imaginary brands) without tutorials to see if I'm even learning. Been years and its still my routine, everyday trying to polish skills. One difference is that right now I work with real brands :P no imaginary anymore.
Search "Arsacre" on Youtube to see my work and work I do for clients :)

One more thing on my youtube channel Arsacre you can learn to make graphics and cool edits that are hardly or not even available anywhere or youtube (99.99% guaranteed haha).
Here's a few that will get you started with a blast
